Why Unknown Macc Exists
Unknown Macc CIC started after seeing how many people travel to Macclesfield because of their connection to Ian Curtis, Joy Division and the town’s musical heritage.
Those visits showed how strongly music, place and memory can connect people. Unknown Macc wants to use that connection in a positive way for local people and for the town.
We want to help people connect, build confidence, learn new skills and feel more involved in Macclesfield.
Our Projects
Our DJ courses help people develop practical DJ skills while building confidence, creativity and social connection.
Whether someone is taking their first steps behind the decks or developing an existing passion, the courses create a welcoming space to learn, share music and connect with others.
The courses also help generate income that can be reinvested into future community projects and funded opportunities.
We’re developing a self-guided audio tour that explores Macclesfield’s music heritage, local stories and cultural identity.
The aim is to give visitors more reasons to spend time in the town, discover places they may otherwise miss and support independent businesses along the way.
By encouraging people to explore beyond the obvious landmarks, we hope to create a stronger connection between visitors, local businesses and the town itself.
We want to help create welcoming community spaces within Macclesfield that encourage reflection, conversation and connection.
These spaces could include creative installations, heritage projects, gardens or quiet areas that give people somewhere to slow down, spend time and feel connected to the town around them.
The aim is simple: create places that make Macclesfield feel more welcoming, thoughtful and enjoyable for everyone.
